5 mistakes that get templates rejected

Mistake 1 — Marketing copy in a Utility template

Utility = transactional (order confirmed, shipped). Marketing = promotional (sale, restock). If your "order confirmation" template ends with "Shop our new collection!", Meta downgrades it to Marketing — or rejects.

Mistake 2 — Missing or wrong example values

Every {{1}} placeholder needs a sample value during submission. Sample values must be realistic — Meta rejects "{{1}}" = "test" or "asdf" looking placeholders.

Mistake 3 — Too many variables

Templates with more than 5-6 variables get scrutinized. Hit the limit and you'll get rejected for "too generic". Combine fields where possible.

Mistake 4 — Missing opt-out language on Marketing

Every Marketing template MUST include "Reply STOP to unsubscribe" (or equivalent). Forget this and rejection is automatic.

Mistake 5 — URLs Meta can't verify

If your template includes a link that's a Bitly redirect, returns 404, or points to a domain not associated with your business, Meta rejects. Use full domain URLs you own.
